More than cake—
remember magic
lives long. Let
it always
surround you, a breathing cloud,
a dance in kisses
and so, this—ask if,
but explore the secret stars
in a universe
time ghost-laughs a fevered breeze
and a heart blushes, flowers
The Oracle knows everything, so she knows it is birthday month at my house. Both daughters and my husband (and mother-in-law) have birthdays in February. When the girls were little, we often had a combined Valentine’s-birthday party. So here is birthday love and wishes in a shadorma tanka combo for Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday challenge. But there will also be a lot of cake and celebrations this month.
A month of lots of cake and celebrations sounds like a wonderful month to me. Happy birthday to all. 🙂 April is like that for us.
The Oracle seems to know you very well. I love all of it (it’s beautiful), but particularly like: “a breathing cloud,/a dance in kisses.” ❤
Thank you, Robin. That was my favorite part, too. 🙂
A cake of stars! Perfect. (K)
Thank you! 🙂
Sweet and dreamy. Ad astra!
Thank you, Marian!
“And a heart blushes” love this! Beautiful, Merril!
Thanks so much, Jill. The Oracle came through. 🙂
Save a piece of cake for The Oracle.
Good idea, Ken! 🙂
Love the starry photo. I couldn’t settle on a favorite line or lines but these are so close: “remember magic / lives long.” It feels like we all should have these lines printed in bold 72-point font and displayed at eye level on every door, window, wall. Happy birthdays to your loved ones!
Thank you. Your comment made me chuckle. 🙂
Then my work here is done 😉
🙂
A month of dreams and wishes indeed
Thank you, Derrick.
Lovely writing. Happy birthday wishes to your special family. 🙂
Thank you very much!
Oh, lovely! There must be seven of you in the Oracle’s calculations. Many happy returns to all the sisters and lots of cake. No ifs.
Thank you, Jane! Seven because of the photo? I just used it because I had it available. My birthday is in December. The February birthdays are our two daughters, husband, and also his mom. I did bake one birthday cake, and I’m sure there will be more. After all, the Oracle did give me cake, and that is not a word I usually see.
I thought that there might be more of you if you search through family history. Not much is random with the Oracle. You might think you only chose the Pleiades because you had it handy. No, cake is a word I’d generally gloss over too.
Well, there are more Feb. birthdays in my husband’s family, but no seven sisters that I know about. Though you are right about the Oracle. 🙂
The Oracle probably didn’t mean sisters in the strict biological sense, more within the kinship group.
No doubt. 😉
It’s fascinating to me how words can be placed into phrases that touch the soul – endlessly. Like birthdays and cake and wishes that come true.
Birthday wishes to you all!
Thank you very much, Pam!

So often February feels like the longest, most miserable month. Not in your house with all those celebrations !
Wonderful indeed
Thank you, Dale. Yes, a month filled with celebration–and also days off from school. 🙂
