Eos, Evelyn de Morgan
Dawn,
blushing
awakens–
pitcher in hand,
she waters with dew
the earth as she rises,
leading the way for the sun–
the god in his chariot glides–
swallowing night in his golden blaze.
But to where does rosy-fingered dawn fly?
On feathered wings, she dances with the stars,
creates new life with passionate embrace,
cares for her incandescent steeds,
(though careless with her lovers)
she beckons and woos, then
sleeps to rise again–
saffron-robed and
radiant–
bringing
light.
Colleen is back! A double etheree for her Tanka Tuesday, using synonyms for beginning and consume. I havenβt written one of these in a while. Itβs a fun exercise.
There was a beautiful sunrise this morning.
Beautiful and my favorite time of day
Thank you very much, Beth. I love it, too–the day seems filled with promise, and this time of year, there’s so much bird song, too!
Lovely! I recognised the artist π
Thank you! I didn’t remember the name, but the painting fit. π
Classical figures, but they look intelligent and healthy, not as if they’ve been brought up in a cupboard without any natural light π
Hahahahaha. You should do art history critiques. π
I think I miss the point too often. Like with poetry…
I do, too.
But yours would be amusing–like my older daughter and I picking out all the ugly babies and misplaced breasts in those old Madonna and child paintings. π
You’re probably right about that π
π
Beautiful, Merril.
Thank you, Jill!
I like how the poem pivots after the question: beautifully done, Merril!
Thank you very much, Marian!
magnificent! (K)

So beautiful! In words and presentation – I can almost feel the breath – deep slow inhalation, deep slow exhalation –
Thank you so much, Susan. I’m so pleased it brought that reaction. π
