The Lesson

I look at the painting. Is it a lesson about hubris? Or that children must make their own mistakes? All I see is father and son, horror and grief.

A haibun quadrille (a poem of 44 words) for dVerse, where De has asked us to use the word “nick.” And also, for Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday, using synonyms for enchant and fly.

    • Thank you, Marian. I actually had to go back and look at your post. Sorry–but yes, I remember now–Auden’s poem and the Breughel painting. I like this painting, too. I believe Gowry was a student of Rubins–this one is very similar to the Rubins painting. I’m fascinated by this story.

  1. Hi Merril. Wonderful use of the word nick in your quadrille. I think it is a lesson to all. Don’t fly too high,. There might be bad results.
