Timekeepers,
sun and moon
rise and set
and we forget
that we move, too,
revolving on our small blue dot
sailing through each day, not
knowing where we’ll dock
or when time’s clock
will stop its ticking-tock–
but then light bends,
it never ends.
This is for yesterday’s dVerse prompt, where Kim asked us to write a quadrille (a poem of 44 words) using the word keep.
Times is the theme for tomorrow’s post. Poetic serendipity here!
🙂
Make that singular: “Time!”
Lovely 😊
Thank you, Marie!
I like this. The rhyming gives it a lightness. I wrote a ‘keep’ poem, but it came out as a puente, not 44 words. I might post it tomorrow.
Thank you! I thought of the first couple of lines while I was lying in bed, and then the rest just came today. 🙂 Yes, post your puente!
I will. Tonight’s is a pretty depressing one, but I really hate the Guy Fawkes thing.
Do they do all that for Guy Fawkes? I thought it was just a bonfire.
No, it’s a horrible anti-Catholic custom. When we were kids, everybody had a bonfire, but we weren’t allowed to have guys. The priest would have bursted us if he’d found out. The Protestants burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes and in Northern Ireland he has anti-papist slogans stuck all over him. It’s a ‘tradition’ that I think ought to be put to sleep.
It sounds pretty awful. Just the bonfire part would be fun–it’s my sister’s birthday. 🙂
It was fun. It’s close enough to Samhain to pretend that’s what it celebrates, and the fireworks and bonfire party food is exactly what kids love. Just don’t mention what it’s all about…
I can’t leave any comments on yours. I don’t know if that’s still intentional or not.
Yes, I’ve left the comments turned off.
Wow! I don’t know how you do it, Merril. I love this!
Thank you so much, Jill!
I wonder if we ever can keep up with the time that’s given to us.
No, we just have to go with the flow.
Time never ends. Beautiful
Thank you!
LOL What I meant to say light never ends.
They’re connected. 🙂
Very nice meter.
Thank you very much, Frank!
Perfection, Merril.
So real.
Thanks so much, Dale!
My pleasure. I really loved it.
🙂
I love all the circles. Time keepers is a great use if the word keep too. (K)
Thanks so much, Kerfe–fellow circler. 😉
I often wonder what life would be without clocks, Merril, living to the rhythm of nature’s timekeepers. I love the phrase ‘revolving on our small blue dot’ and the rhymes in:
‘…not
knowing where we’ll dock
or when time’s clock
will stop its ticking-tock’
and then light bends, and you’ve brought us back to the beginning again!
Thank you very much, Kim!
For me, the is a 2-in-1 special. That is, two of my favorite topics in one thought – Time and Sagan’s pale blue dot. Wonderful!
Aww–thank you, Frank!
Thought-provoking, Merril.
Thank you, Derrick.
I love your poem! It is hard to believe we are spinning on a giant ball in space, marking time like it might make some difference!
Thank you so much, Dwight! You’re right–and humans have only existed for a blink. 🙂
This is beautifully eloquent and deep, Merril! ❤️❤️
Thank you so much! ❤
