“In a light echo, light from the flash is reflected by successively more distant rings in the complex array of ambient interstellar dust that already surrounded the star. V838 Mon lies about 20,000 light years away toward the constellation of the unicorn (Monoceros), while the light echo above spans about six light years in diameter.” Image Credit: NASA
For Kerfe and Jane
The echo of stars’ light
(so bright, so bright)
twinkles through space and time
in radiant waves shimmering
(the sight, the sight)
of shimmering stars
and humming moon
(her tune, her tune)
propels us forward
with Oracle and alchemy
(rhapsodies of fantasy)
we three witches seek guidance
through conjuring magic
(the gifts, the gifts)
of whys and ifs,
thus, we pause life’s darkness
to reveal the light—it’s there, it’s there!
So bright, so bright, so bright, so bright.
This is for my prompt at dVerse, where I’ve asked everyone to echo or write about echoes.
I love the echo of the stars… it sounds like such a perfect way to explore the night.
Thank you. I like the idea of their echoing.
Bloody hell! That is a truely weird coincidence! I’ve even used that image several times. I added the parentheses as an afterthought. Obviously not an afterthought but your thought!
Isn’t it weird? (Or not?) And you’ve used that same image, which I thought I just randomly found, but obviously not. . .
It’s one of my favourites for a star image. I haven’t used it lately because I don’t want to get too predicable.
When did you write it? Don’t tell me it was within the last hour.
I got the three witches idea earlier today, but yes, I mostly wrote this within the last hour. 🙂
I wonder why that doesn’t surprise me? I’ve been thinking of the three witches too. We should start a group or a political party…
🙂
I hope Kerfe decides to do this prompt, too.
Nudge her. But tell her not to dare read ours first.
I’ll send her a telepathic nudge. 😉
I’ve added a ps to the comment I left on her blog earlier this evening.
OK. I just added one there, too, and that reminded me that I hadn’t read your other posts, so after I get some more work done. . .
You’re working remember. And I have to go out in the cold and the dark because Finbar needs a walk. Among other things…
🙂
Echoes of starlight, what a concept. I know that much of the night sky is a graveyard, many of the stars long dead, with their light just reaching us now. I like the idea that you mixed your echo verse with several varieties; great prompt.
Thank you very much, Glenn!
Love the idea of the moon humming. Nice, Merril!
Thank you, Jill!
I can see you three crones consulting The Oracle. The photo looks like a womb/cauldron of creation. Mystical and magical poem, Merril ❤
Thank you very much! ❤
YW 🙂
What a beautiful notion- that stars echoing. Lovely Merril!
Thank you, Linda!
we pause life’s darkness
to reveal the light
We must continue to do this!
Thank you, Dwight. Yes, we must!
Nice use of rhyme! I ponder “the gifts) / of whys and ifs.” Usually they are not considered gifts but sorrows and regrets.
Thank you very much. I think ifs can also mean a range of possibilities open to someone. But it’s also a sort of reference to the magnetic poetry that Jane, Kerfe, and I do nearly every Saturday–my poems seem to always have if in them–and we all tend to explore the why of life and the universe. 🙂
The idea that stars echo is a wonderful image and I hear it in your rhymes 🙂
Thank you, Lynn!
How did you do that, Merril?! Across a great geographical distance, you’ve echoed Jane’s poem so beautifully in your three-line stanzas, right down to the repetitions in parentheses and the moon and stars. There must be some truth in the lines:
‘with Oracle and alchemy
(rhapsodies of fantasy)
we three witches seek guidance’.
It is freaky and amazing, isn’t it Kim? I didn’t even know that Jane had seen the prompt. Nearly every Saturday when we visit the Magnetic Poetry Oracle, we come up with many of the same words and similar ideas, but one could (perhaps) explain that with the limited number of tiles. But this? I have no idea!
More scintillating stars. Very well done.
Thank you very much.

So bright, so bright, so bright, so bright.
Light at the end of the tunnel so they say is there . It is a matter of waiting patiently!
Hank
Thank you very much, Hank!
I like the thought of the tune of the humming moon.
Thank you, Frank!
Well done! I like the idea of light echoing. The echo in your stanzas is amazingly effective.
Thank you very much!
This is wonderful Merril! I’m sorry not to have echoed you and Jane with the parentheses (although I did talk about moons and stars) but I’m smiling at the dedication and the beautiful words. And one of my archive images, at least, is very close to your photo. (K)
Great writing with wonderful imagery. BTW – I considered using this image as a header, but never did.
Thank you very much, Frank. Great minds. 😉
Hooray for witches. So happy to see them chanting to the stars. This is such an unusual and interesting use of repetition. I like it very much Thanks for the poem and the prompt.
Thank you so much for reading and for your lovely comment. I’m so pleased you enjoyed the prompt.
Damn you’re good. So Good. So Good.
Thank you so much, Pam. 🙂
Just lovely, Merril!
I also adore the astronomy lesson. It’s amazing fascinating!
Thank you very much!
