Hesperides Dance Around the Golden Tree
I dreamt of golden apples
that fell fragrant from the sun
to land on earth shadow-dappled–
beyond, I heard a river run
and wandered to its grassy bank
where songbirds flocked and flew
to swoop at shining, rainbow fish. I drank
the pure, clear water—well, wouldn’t you?
For this was a calm and peaceful place–
where bees droned and danced a pirouette
in rhythmic waves, almost embraced–
I wondered if they loved or faced regret
at the days that pass all too soon,
when love and loved ones disappear–
yet silver apples of the moon
shine on, in dreams, golden apples appear.
This is for dVerse Open Link Night, where Grace is hosting, and also for the Tuesday dVerse Poetics prompt, where Anmol asked us to write about apples. Jane, I managed to get the silver apples in, too. 🙂
I enjoyed th flight of fancy this piece so sweetly offered me, before I headed for bed tonight! Thank you, Merril
Thank you very much, Scott. Sweet dreams!
My favorite lines:
“where songbirds flocked and flew
to swoop at shining, rainbow fish. I drank
the pure, clear water—well, wouldn’t you?”
Your poem reminded me of that song, “Spill the Wine” and I imagined the water tasted like apple wine ❤
Thank you, Jade. I’m glad my lines sent you there! Enjoy that apple wine. 🙂
You’re welcome 🙂
I admire the painting and the poem of dreaming those golden apples in that peaceful place. I like the transformation here: yet silver apples of the moon, shine on, in dreams, golden apples appear.
Thank you very much, Grace!
I liked how the silver apples of the moon shine on.
Thank you, Frank.
There’s a hint of magic in your poem, Merril, traces of the golden apples of Hesperides, one of my favourite stories from the Greek myths. It’s dreamlike and appeals to the senses.
Thank you very much, Kim! I’m pleased you saw a hint of magic here. 🙂
Well-written!
Thank you!
‘And pluck till time and times are done’

How could I not?
Delightful – love the “wouldn’t you?” (yup, I would!)
Thank you so much–I couldn’t resist. 🙂
Such a delightful image, golden apples falling from the sun. Yes, I would drink that.water.
Thank you very much, Paul! 🙂
Most welcome Merril
A beautiful poem Merril! We can learn a lot about letting go and letting things cycle by watching nature. I love this line;;;
For this was a calm and peaceful place–
where bees droned and danced a pirouette
Thank you so much, Dwight. I’m so pleased you liked the poem. Sometimes we have to just stop and look at the beauty of the world around us–even if it’s just for a few minutes.
You are welcome!
A beautiful peaceful write – lovely.

This had such a lovely song-like feel to it.
I loved it.
Thank you so much, Dale. Sorry for the delayed response–lots going on, and I’m working from two different computers. . .
Whatchu talkin’ about? I’m just catching up in reading what I missed! And I screwed up my computer and can’t get into it! I’m waiting for my brother-in-law to come and bail me out
Everything is screwy! 🙂
