Delaware River at West Deptford, NJ May 2020
Beneath dark clouds
if climbs, happy and wild,
bright flowers, shining sun-gold
as ancient river breezes rustle with why, which, when–
the seeds of deep time that grow from cold earth, warmed,
following moon song and spring’s light
to blossom here, now
I cast a soul-stone into the blue-grey water,
watch the soft rippling and listen to the wind sigh.

Wildflowers
The Oracle knows everything, including all about my almost daily morning walk and mourning ritual of throwing a stone into the river as I stop for a moment and think about my mom.
This is so lovely and quietly melancholic. On the surface our poems seem very different, but I think they’re simply two contrasting reactions to the same feelings, both searching for peace, both born out of sadness.
Thank you.
I just read and commented on yours. I had the same reaction. We have so many of the same words, and I think they both are searching–mine looking at earth and clouds, and yours out further beyond to space.
It should be strange, but it isn’t 🙂
No, it isn’t. 😀
🙂
Like the clouds, wispy and surreal.
Thank you, Frank!
So reflective – in more ways than one thanks Merril – lovely 😊
Thank you, Susan. 😀
You got me reflecting on your mourning ritual – offering a sense of peace.
Thank you, Derrick.
You expressed your morning ritual beautifully, Merril. Have a peaceful Saturday.❤️
Thank you very much, Jill. You, too! ❤️
Beautiful, melancholic but at the same time, hopeful. I love your ritual and am so happy that you have that withing your reach.
Thank you very much, Dale!
I didn’t go out today–it’s cold and windy–but it is a good ritual.
* within!
😀
That’s a beautiful ritual. These days are full of questions and melancholy. (K)
Yes, they are. Thank you, Kerfe.
GOOD MOURNING
Deep sadness
A moment later
Peace returns
Let it be
Everything falls into place
As if it was meant
Thank you very much, Ben. I appreciate that. Apt and comforting thoughts.
That was the intention. 🙂
😀
I enjoyed this, Merril. There light even within the gray.
Yes, indeed. Thank you, Ken.
