From beneath,
under, and within
monsters come–
arising
from the depths they smile at you
offering you gifts
but light drifts,
blue-shifting nearer
in pinpricks
and glimmers
radiating from above,
brightening beauty, truth
is constant,
never ebbing or
flowing, though
it tumbles
blown by foul winds, yet always
seeking the surface.
A shadorma sequence for Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday prompt . This time, an ekphrastic challenge, using the photo above, supplied by Vashti Q. Vega.
It made me think of this song because my daughters used to go around singing it.
Thankful for those glimmers!
Thank you, yes!
Such great imagery and then to end with Captain Hook and “his” crocodile! Big smiles over here!
Thank you!
I’m glad I made you smile. π

Thank you very much!
I love your shadorma sequence! Captain Hook was an excellent addition to your thoughts. LOL! β€
Thank you, Colleen. My mind flows with all sorts of strange connections, and sometimes I share them. π
Eloquently expressed!! Iβve met those monsters.
Thank you! Yes, they’re all around now.
Always have been. People who didnβt see them before, can see them clearly now.
Well, yes. Social media and instant news makes them more visible. Even so, not everyone sees them.
Iβve been able to see them all my life and have ample experience with the deniers. Denial is a strong and often impenetrable force.
Yes. Sigh.

Well done, Merril!
Thank you, Jill!
In the end I do think the truth becomes the light. But there is often a lot of stumbling in the dark beforehand. (K)
Yes, you are quite right, Kerfe. Thank you!
The “monsters” always lurk, but we’re safe if we keep our sights toward those glimmers. I certainly hope so, anyway. Wonderful impressive poem.
Thank you so much, Pam!
I love your take Merrill, metaphoric genius πΌ
Thank you, Jude! π
