At Midnight
gather
moonbeams and weave
a tapestry of light
to hang upon the wall of night,
glowing,
wait for
dawn’s chariot
to drive across the sky.
Collect her rays in blankets for
cold hearts.
Listen
for crow’s wisdom,
squirrel’s scolding, and frog’s croak.
Hear the joy in a baby’s laugh,
find peace
and watch
for storms on seas
of tumbling, tossing waves,
leaving you adrift. Here you find
dragons–
fire
streams from their mouths–
yet you must stay calm, sing
the song of sun, moon, stars, sea–
exhale
glowing
dawn’s chariot,
squirrels scolding, and frog’s croak,
the song, of sun, moon, stars, sea—
behold.
Colleen sort of challenged me to write a garland cinquain, so here it is. For her Tanka Tuesday challenge.
This was absolutely wonderful, Merril. I enjoyed the ride from start to finish. So much delightful imagery.
Thank you so much, Dale. I wrote some of it in my head while I was walking this morning, but I think it was luck that I was able to fit the lines for the last stanza. 😏
It’s amazing how much we create as we walk….
Luck…. Maybe….
😊
I think it’s anytime you walk away from screen or paper and kind of let your mind go–could be in the shower, too. 😏
This is true. Happens when you let it go. 🙂
❤ ❤
Thank you! ❤️
Merril! Thank you and this is amazing!! Your words brought goosebumps! Exactly what I was looking for. Well done, my friend. ❤
Thank you, Colleen! I’m so pleased you like it.
This feels like a scene from an epic tale.
Oh! Thanks. 😀
You met the challenge with this lovely stroll between night and dawn. The water imagery resonates most with me right now, as it’s been raining almost nonstop since Saturday afternoon. No complaints, though. Florida’s in a drought … among other things 😉
Thank you so much, Marie! I didn’t know you were in a drought there. We’ve had a lot of rain this spring, and we just had several days of off and on thunderstorms. It was nice to have a beautiful day with low humidity today!
We’ve had plenty of rain this week 🙂 I was going to prune back a tea rose bush that a friend gave me a long time ago. But thanks to the rain, it’s pushing out new buds 😊
Yay! Good news!
Excellent! I have that challenge on my list too, but it would be hard to improve on your effort. It really works as a flowing circle.
And I love the dragon. (K)
Thank you so much. I don’t know where the dragon came from, but never argue with the muse. 😏
And still you produced an advocation for staying calm.
Thank you very much, Derrick.
Wow, the rhythm and imagery. Outstanding work Merrill,
Thank you so much, Jude!
My pleasure 🌼
You did it.!! Beautiful!
Pat
Thank you so much!
You always give me goosebumps with your poems (that’s a good thing). I love this. ❤
That is so kind, Vashti. Thank you so much! ❤️
You’re very welcome. 🙂
You met Colleen’s challenge admirably well! I particularly enjoyed the weaving of the lines.
Thank you so much, Liz!
You’re welcome, Merril!
Another amazing poem with wonderful imagery, Merril.
Thank you so much!
