This is Enough

Cloud Reflections on the Delaware River at West Deptford, NJ ©️Merril D. Smith 2020

Trees and birds kiss the sky
in blue-on-blue reflection

and today, I’ll sky the world with you
without pause or hesitation.

In mirrored lands we’ll float
on dreams, the clouds our boat

watching the heron squawk, soar–
this is enough, I need nothing more.

Heron flying over the Delaware River at Red Bank Battlefield

A quadrille for dVerse, where De has asked us to use the word, sky. I think the rhythm of this one is more soothing than my previous post this morning. I don’t know why I’m stuck on couplets and rhyme though today.

  1. This drew a deep sigh out of me 😀 how could anyone possibly want or need anything else? This … this right here is enough ❤️❤️ Splendid write!

  2. I’ll sky the world with you……what an amazing line!
This is exactly how I feel sitting here in Provincetown with the Atlantic Ocean sounding its high tide and the forever sky above. 🙂

  3. The prompt word is perfect for the water trip you’re on, Merril, which I’ve been following on social media. I love the Hendrix reference in the opening line, and the appearance of the heron. It’s a heron that appears at beginning and end of Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, a book I love for its imagery.

  4. Hi Merril! This is something I need to share with my fellow writers here at dVerse. I so enjoy reading the work that you create and post, and am genuinely honored to be embraced as a part of this community of poets. May we all find healing in these challenging times. And as a true aquarian love child, and also a proud flower child of the 60’s, who truly believed then we would some day change the world to be a better place for all, and still believes that we might yet do it — I wish each of you peace, health, and love. Write on!
