All my senses come alive
in the beauty of tree-glow, cinnamon and gold
seep into my skin, neuron-sparked,
I taste the pastel river blues, mint and citrus,
drink the night’s indigo, red wine, vanilla-scented and wood-smoke
hazing the humming moon–
and I dream
of morning sky tasting of peaches and ripe berries
bursting with sweetness.
With trembling fingers, I touch rainbow-lettered you
but love is white light, composed of every color,
holding stars songs of yesterday and tomorrow.
For dVerse, where Grace asked us to write a poem on synesthesia, specifically grapheme color synesthesia, so I hope I got it right.
Oh my, I’ve seldom read anything as beautiful.
“taste the pastel river blues, mint and citrus,
drink the night’s indigo, red wine, vanilla-scented and wood-smoke…”. Too many gorgeous images to excerpt from this delicious poem.
Thank you so much, dear Rene! I’m so pleased and touched by your kind and lovely words!
Your poetry leaves me speechless! You are gifted!
Awww–thank you so much! 💙💙
all true!!
😘
Oh, this is so beautiful and majestic. It’s breathtaking, especially “I taste the pastel river blues, mint and citrus, drink the night’s indigo, red wine, vanilla-scented and wood-smoke…”
WOW. That is stirring.
WOW–thank you so much, Lucy! Your comment makes me very happy.
This is absolutely beautiful, Merril. I agree with Holly, it’s one delicious part to another.
I tried to write one last night but it just wouldn’t work.
Thank you so much. When I thought about it yesterday, nothing came. Then when I was getting ready for bed, it did–and I thought more about it while I was walking this morning. 😀
That worked out beautifully! I had an idea but I can’t seem to get it out. Maybe I’m not feeling it right now.
Come back to it some other time.
I think I will because it’s still swirling around…
Yay!
Awww shucks. You are too sweet.
😀
Oh my….”of morning sky tasting of peaches and ripe berries
bursting with sweetness.” Love this, Merril! Your morning walks certainly inspire your creative juices. This is beautiful.
Thank you so much, Jill!
I wasn’t sure about the prompt either, but this sounds and tastes beautifully right to me 🙂
Thank you very much!
🙂
‘cinnamon and gold’ and ‘but love is white, composed of every color’
Fall images and tastes with love thrown in for good measure…a lovely end to an awkward (heck, let’s just admit it: hugely insane) week.
Beautiful Merril, thank you 🙂
Thank you, Susan!
Absolutely amazing
Thank you!
Most welcome..
Nice! The colors have taste and scent; the poem sings in white light.
Thank you so much!
The history buff in me had to look up the Battlefield. What a beautiful place.
Thank you very much! Yes, the battle fought there in October 1777 with many Hessian soldiers killed, and the house used as a field hospital.
I’m fortunate to have this park so nearby, and I like to go early in the morning when there are few people around.
I absolutely LOVE this. You can’t get more sensory rich than scents and colors and flavors and moods. Will share this on Facebook. 🙂
Thank you so much, Marian! I’m so pleased.
Amazing post..
Thank you!
Welcome dear
I can taste the colours here too, Merril – such beautiful images – I love the light at this time of day!
Thank you very much, Ingrid! That day was particularly beautiful–and much needed.
A wonderful poem of amazing colors. I could see and feel them all . Love your ending very much!

This is a yummy, satisfying morsel of synesthesia
Thank you so much!
This is exquisitely drawn, Merril! 💝 Such wonderfully palpable use of color and imagery especially; “I dream of morning sky tasting of peaches and ripe berries
bursting with sweetness.” Yes! 😀
Aww–thank you so much, Sanaa! 😀
The photograph and the poem are each equally lovely.
Thank you very much, Derrick!
What a beautiful, life-affirming poem. I’m sitting here in tears.
Wow! Thank you so much, Liz. I’m so moved by your comment. 💙
You’re welcome, Merril.
I love how you weaved this love story of color… and of course, love needs all the colors (as in white)
Thank you very much!
Absolutely brilliant!
