The moon sighs and sings, a luscious silver spray in blue,
the fiddler plays along, repeating feather trills,
the universeโs secret smiles–
now watch the ghosts dance, bird-winged, eternal–
or almost–
and ask what they see,
and if they dream, or
revel in argent glow,
their hearts recalling when and never, before
shadows and the afterlight of a thousand stars in song.
Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt asks us to create a “Personal Universal Deck,” a card deck of words. I like the idea of creating my own word deck, but today I’m basing my poem on words from the Magnetic Poetry Oracle. We have a standing Saturday date to collaborate, and I wouldn’t want to upset her. ๐
Certainly not a good idea to upset the Oracle! I loved โthe universeโs secret smilesโ – ๐
Thanks so much, Ingrid. No, I wouldn’t want to upset her! ๐
Stunningly expressive and inquisitive, Merril!
Adore it… you and your oracle, and the painting is out of this world!
Thank you so much, Resa! I’m very fond of this painting, too.
There’s a naivety about it.
Maybe. I just think of it as Chagall’s style, and it makes me think of Fiddler on the Roof, and my ancestors.
Ahh!
I see the Fiddler on the Roof, too!
Happy Passover!
Thank you! ๐
I would like to think that we live in “the afterlight of a thousand stars in song.” That’s the line I’ll carry with me throughout the day today. ๐
Thank you so much, Liz. That’s lovely! ๐
You’re welcome, Merril.
I love the dreamy feel of this. I hope the Oracle shares these whispers with my dreams tonight! (K)
Thank you so much. I hope she does, too!
No, don’t upset the Oracle. ๐ I think she’s pleased with your words today, Merril.
Thank you, Jill. I hope so! ๐
Beautiful … no disappointment here!
Aww–thanks so much,Helen!
I’ve just consulted. Didn’t have much time today. We have the same poem! Again ๐
We do! ๐
Yes, I was wondering. You usually post yours before me, and I was late because I talked to my niece for about an hour on the phone. ๐คฃ
It was son’s birthday today so we talked for ages even though we’ll be seeing him tomorrow. We’re going to Bordeaux to see the eldest before she pops and while we’re still able to travel. From Tuesday it’s a 10km limit. We’ll see three of them, bring one back with us and take her home on Monday evening. I don’t know when we’ll all get together again. The lockdown is until mid May at the earliest.
Happy Birthday to your son! You will have a few happy and busy days. Stay safe. We probably should have had restrictions like that a few times, but each state has its own policies.
We’ve had this on and off for over a year now. We’re about used to it now, just a shame it’s happening when the baby’s due.
Son says he’s not going out tonight so he’ll be up bright and early tomorrow ๐
Oh dear. It’s worrying with all the variants now. That’s sad though that you can’t be with your daughter or see the baby right away.
Younger daughter is going to see my mother-in-law tomorrow for Easter because they’re both vaccinated. We’ll go see her when we’re both two weeks past the second dose.
It was hectic and not long enough but worth it ๐
Oh good! ๐
Oh, how I love Chagall!๐ Your poem does his Blue Fiddler justice.๐
Thank you so much! ๐
I so love your interludes with the Oracle. ๐๐ปโค๏ธ
Thank you! โค๏ธ
Twinklingly mystical
Thank you. ๐
How can you not play with the Oracle when she gives you such wonderful words to play with? I was trying to chose my favourite part. Couldn’t. The whole thing is beautiful
Awww–that is so kind! Thank you, Dale!
I tell it like it is! And my pleasure to so so!
