She walked through the city bustling, teeming–
bodies electric, grumbling, gleaming,
broken hearts and dreamers dreaming
of crossing bridges, the future seeming
~just beyond reach~
she thinks, the glittering stars. The sight
so wondrous and magical. Tonight,
these constellations of silvery-white ignite–
she wishes, then reaches for the twinkling light.
A puente for Day 8 of Paul Brookes Ekphrastic Challenge. I was inspired by the work of John Law and Jane Cornwell. You can see all the art and read all the poems here.
We had similar thoughts π I love the rhyme scheme of this puente.
Thank you! It’s funny (or not) that we had such similar thoughts. π
Perfectly normal π

Love this. Did you not include the image on purpose? I think part of the fun of the Ekphrastic is to look at the image as we read the poem…
Thank you, Dale.
I was in a hurry, and my WP gallery is getting filled. . .I don’t know. But I always include the link so you can see the art.
Did you know you can copy/paste an image without it taking space in your gallery? Well… In the classic editor…
I thought once you posted something it just shows up in your gallery. WP is soooo weird.
I found out when Marc said he just pasted some in… really? So now, I just cut/paste things like the Weekend Writing Prompt… Others, I’ve also been able to. My own that I’ve watermarked? Nope… that has to go into the media file.
Hmmm. I’ll see if I can figure that out. . .
G’head… worse thing that can happen is it doesn’t work!
No, I wasn’t questioning trying it, just if it would work.
Like I said, some do, some don’t π
If you are copying and pasting from the Internet, it often does work.
I love this Merril, absolutely beautiful verses.
Thank you so much, Rene!
You are so welcome, itβs a joy to read your work!

Reblogged this on The Wombwell Rainbow.
Thank you, Paul.
Love this! So freeing and full of life! π
Thank you very much, Colleen! π
A beautiful bridge between the two images–“just beyond reach”–so much of life seems that way. (K)
Thank you very much, Kerfe. Yes, you’re right, it does.
I love the rhythm of this poem.
Thank you very much! π
I love, love, love this poem! I’m right there in the city with her. Amazing how poetry can do that. Pure magic.
Thank you, Liz. I love that enthusiastic response! π
