All the glimmers and the shimmers,
pink, blue, white—colors and light,
that dance in air, then reflect back—aware–
this place will entice, enthrall—
and you want it all,
forget your life
now monochrome, pale shades, not quite brown or grey–
ever since that day.
You remember him as he was,
with his dog, the two seldom parted—
his life finished now, though it was scarcely started,
But when you dream–
the world is bright,
and you want to stay, to keep this sight–
this fairy world. Perhaps not real—
but, oh! The appeal of
stars and sparkled ponds,
a streaming vision, scintillating hues–
no then or now, or what has passed–
simply love, unerring, steadfast,
in this altered state, returned to you.
For Paul Brookes’ Ekphrastic Challenge, Day 20. As he notes, we’re two thirds through the challenge!
So sad and poignant and beautiful Merril!
Thank you very much, Ingrid!
Reblogged this on The Wombwell Rainbow.
Beautifully poignant
Thank you very much, Derrick.
Lovely, Merril.
Thank you, Jill!
Direct route right to my heart. Poignant and beautifully done.
Aww–thank you, dear friend! ❤️
💞
I like how you lead us into timelessness here. Can we stay in it? I think not and I like the feeling the poem gives of a moment when time and eternity balance. Like a ballerina on her toe though I don’t know why that picture occurred to me. !!!
Thank you very much, Claudia!
I get images like that, too, that pop into my head. I think picturing a ballerina–in your mind, she can stand on her toe forever. Then, too, the image comes and goes.
With so many poetry types that I’ve never heard of, I looked up Ekphrastic …. OK … definitely vivid. For me, that fits most of your poetry.
Thank you for the kind words, Frank!
I did have to laugh though, as I’ve written many ekphrastic poems (poems in response to art), and I’m in the middle of a month-long challenge right now.
This is such a moving poem, the last stanza the fondest wish of all who mourn:
no then or now, or what has passed–
simply love, unerring, steadfast,
in this altered state, returned to you.
Thank you so much, Liz. I appreciate that.
You’re welcome, Merril. I’ll confess to tearing up over your poetry on a regular basis.
Aww—thank you! ❤️ I guess I’m doing something right then.
You’re welcome. Yes, you’re doing something right, straight to the heart.
❤️
Our mind travels everywhere. Poignant. (K)
Yes. Thank you, Kerfe.
Melancholy beauty….
Insight and perception, perhaps intuition. Thank you Merril!
Thank you, Resa! 💙
Wow … those works of art are so different and yet you brought them together seamlessly!
Thank you so much, Marie! 💙
We keep everything, like a great unsorted treasure trove. It is poignant.
Thank you. It is–all those memories.
