Inspired by KR 24, “Wishes” and JL 24 “Snipe”
Wishes glide
on many wings, some
slight flutter
newly born–
butterflies from chrysalis
dreams, desires seen,
soar and sing
as mockingbirds of
dreams. Or dove-
cooed clinging,
birds on a wire, resting,
still before the storm
gusts, blusters–
rising tide, wind blows
winnowing
like the snipe—
creeping dreams, such feathered things
that soar, fly, drift, die
and again
reborn, spring-lighting
from winter
gloom, hatched to
buzz, sting, flitter, sing, and then
sometimes. . . they come true.

Very very beautiful. This line was absolutely breathtaking:
“soar and sing
as mockingbirds of
dreams.”
I enjoyed reading this. It’s amazing.
Hi Lucy! Thank you so much! 💙
Reblogged this on The Wombwell Rainbow.
Thank you, Paul.
So lovely, Merril. I’m awe-struck at how you bring the two images together in your poem.
Thank you very much, Marie. That’s very kind.
I like the optimistic note at the end: though fragile, dreams can come true!
Thank you very much. I try not to be too pessimistic. 😀
Wonderfully done, Merril. That circle of life thing is beautiful, isn’t it?
Thank you! Yes, it is.
🙂
I love your poem’s fanciful take on wishes! The last line took me right back to “When you wish upon a star.”
Thank you, Liz! I hadn’t even thought of the song (not consciously anyway). 😀
You’re welcome, Merril! I hadn’t thought of the song in years
😀
Wishes and birds. They go together so well 🙂
They do! 😀
So well observed and brought to a wishful conclusion
Thank you very much, Derrick. 😀
Makes me think of Emily Dickinson, hope is the thing with feathers. Jane is right. (K)
Thank you so much!
