Is it beauty–this ache you feel
in a spray of silvered light?
After the dark, the cold, the storm,
the night of bitter winds and blooded moans—
how still the world becomes—
moon on sea and vines, sublime the after-well.
And if she chants, listen,
as a tree rooted holds the connection—
clasping tendrils networked below while branching arms reach high,
so you, heart-entwined and grounded, gaze up
to her beauty–
and listen for the song of those who came before,
sending your dreams to those who come after.
I visited the Magnetic Poetry Oracle yesterday morning, as usual, but I didn’t have a chance to post the poem yesterday. No doubt, the Oracle knew I needed this photo, taken yesterday afternoon to go with it. I’m behind on reading and commenting, but I will catch up today and tomorrow. 😀
It looks like the perfect pairing of words and image to me!
Awww–that’s very kind. Thank you, Ingrid!
Beautifully written, Merril. The photo is gorgeous!
Thank you so much, Jill!
Oh yes. Love this… and methinks you were meant to wait to capture the proper pic 🙂
I think you’re right. When I walked by, I had to stop to take this picture, and I thought it would be perfect for the poem.
I love when that happens!! 🙂
It’s funny because I would have posted it before I took the photo–but the Oracle knows!
She does! Might as well not fight her 😉
No, that could be dangerous! 😀
I love your tree poem, the roots and upreaching branches. We both had the storm, the moon, music, the dark sky and the silvering, but you put into this one all that took me two poems to write!
Thank you! Yes, you’re right! 🤣
It’s funny I started out with the storms and moon, but the Oracle obviously was doing some tree whispering, too.
She was whispering, Jane’s done those but she forgot the trees…
I love the moodiness in this poem. Nice job.
Thank you very much!
“bitter winds and blooded moans” — those words sent a little chill down my spine 😉 I love the dark, swaying mood of this poem.
Thank you so much!
I’m not sure where those lines came from, but I don’t argue. 😏
Trees are so much about connections. And the moon too…(K)
Yes, I think so, too.
This is beautiful, Merril.
Thank you so much, Ken.
Beautifully done, with perfect last two lines
Thank you very much, Derrick!
You and this Oracle do great work together.
You create gems, such as this.
Have you guys considered taking your show on the road? 😉
Thank you! 🤣
