How would I tell you—
the beauty of the morning sky,
the bird-swept clouds, the hummed goodbye
of moon still high
there, my eyes
reflect the shine. To be or not,
is not my question–here I am, not angsty youth,
but rather longer in the tooth—
how would I explain,
how the colors fill me
with joy and light—
grey or bright, the taste, the sight
tawny gold, rose, and peach, the foamy white
of churning waves?
The winter river’s cool mint blue?
The delight
of it–me and you.
My thoughts—my mind’s eye–
how do I explain? There is no why—
only what is
the beauty of the sky, the light,
the birds in flight
winging, singing
star-breathed dreams, the colored streams
web-woven in my head, released someday to fly
in iridescent blues and greens—peacock-eyed—
around the sun, then seeded in the ground–
how would I tell you any of this–
thoughts, if not profound, yet unbound—the bliss.
This is the kind of stuff that goes through my head, so I guess it can be considered a soliloquy for Victoria’s prompt at dVerse.
I’d love a walk in your thoughts, thank you! Delightful blissful journey!
Aww–thank you, Beverly! That made me smile. 😀
Beautiful self-talking, Merrill. You capture for yourself and for the of us who get a glimpse into your mind, your joy in the beauty of nature. I relate to your love of colors.
Thank you so much, Victoria. 💙 I appreciated the challenge of your prompt.
And a beautiful Soliloquy it is…it takes a deep thinking person to take in all that nature has to offer and express the emotions as you have. Woodford is mighty fine Kentucky Bourbon!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment–and the explanation, too.
(I know a little bit about wine, but nothing about bourbon.) 😀
Your poetic color palate lights up the corner of the pub, leaving poetic jelly beans along the trail so that we don’t lose our way.
Thank you so much, Glenn. 😀
Merril,
You carried me away on this poetic tide of colors and sounds and sensations. I loved “star-breathed dreams, the colored streams” — lovely magic of words wedded to your delightful voice.
pax,
dora
Oh! Thank you so much, Dora! Peace to you, too.
OMG your photo is girgeous, luv the cloudscape.
Nice poem of your thoughts

Thank you so much, Gillena. Sometimes my morning walks are so beautiful.
Happy Friday to you!
Love the sounds and the rhymes in this, and the youth/tooth had me laughing
Thank you so much! 😀
This one definitely speaks for me!
Thank you, Liz. I’m pleased it does.
You’re welcome, Merril.
Simply beautiful, Merril!
Thank you, Jill!
Breathtakingly beautiful Merril ❤️ I especially loved
“winging, singing
star-breathed dreams, the colored streams
web-woven in my head, released someday to fly
in iridescent blues and greens—peacock-eyed—
around the sun, then seeded in the ground–”
Ahhh, I want what you’re having if those are your thoughts! ☺️
Thank you very much, Christine!💙
It actually is much like how I think–on one level. My early morning walks are often awe-inspiring in a literal way to me. Of course, I also have other thoughts going on in my head at the same time. 😀
Remarkable stuff. I love the mild artistic angst permeating through the verse, the struggle to make the connection between the mind and the ability to express it. Of course, your conclusion is considerably more positive than I originally expected, lending to a certain unknowable charm to it all. Wonderful bit of craft, wonderful to read, re-read, and certainly wonderful to comment upon.
Thank you so much for your very kind words!
It is truly the least I could do.
💙
Oh wow, this is extremely beautiful. Wow, wow, wow.
Thank you so much! 💙
It works for me! I love your train of thought as you look out across the beautiful river without the angst of youth! Very nicely done.
Thank you very much, Dwight!
You are welcome!
How beautiful, to have such thoughts pass through your head! I felt like I was walking through one of your photographs of the Delaware river 🙂
That’s lovely. Thank you so much, Ingrid! 💙
The imagery and phrases in this are just stunning! I had fun reading through this and finding the rhymes that popped out unexpectedly. Really beautiful poem!
Wow–thank you so much, Phillip!
I feel your bliss as I read the words. Your daily dose with every stroll. The colors, the acceptance of the present, and the pondering of the what-afters. A lovely poem, Merril.
Thank you so much, Lisa!
You’re most welcome.
“winging, singing
star-breathed dreams, the colored streams
web-woven in my head, released someday to fly
in iridescent blues and greens—peacock-eyed—
around the sun, then seeded in the ground–”
Perhaps the most stunning stanza
Thank you very much, Derrick.
And told very well.
Thank you. 😀
Well, just keep following your thoughts. They take you to lovely places and images 🙂
Hahaha. Thanks, Marie! 😀
Such a lovely tumble of rhyme and images. Like a happy whimsical flute playing over the top of an orchestral rise and fall. A joyful soliloquy 🙂
Thank you so much for your very kind and lovely words! I like that image of the flute playing over the orchestral harmony. 😀
You’re most welcome ☀️
Thank you for the journey of your words. I enjoyed every step.
This is the part that most spoke to me,
“My thoughts—my mind’s eye–
how do I explain? There is no why—
only what is
the beauty of the sky, the light,
the birds in flight”
Wonderful.
Thank you so much, Ali! I’m pleased you enjoyed it.
This is a great poem – invoking soliloquy through nature. Beautiful photo too. 🙂
Thank you so much! 😀
🙂
Nature’s beauty captured beautifully in your soliloquy, Merril. You took us on a wonderful walk. 💙

Thank you so much! 😀
I love how you take inspiration from the colors and how your symbiosis with the river that permeates your words.
Thanks so much, Björn. Symbiosis–I never thought of it that way before. Thanks!
Beautiful description I’ve ever read☺️
Thank you very much! 😀
