Inspired by all three Day 9 images.
Harbors and Tables
The pistons hop and engines throb,
the business of business never stops,
and the busyness of jobs
and people-flow
to the harbor where
machines whirl, and spin, and drum
the daytime hums and hustles
the nighttime bustles,
lights in rainbow colors
call
to windows above–
the young girls sees
only the dazzle and gaiety.
When she’s told to come to the table,
she gentles her doll into a cradle–
all the color and light now reflected in a
a meal prepared and shared—
in the hustle and bustle of a dinner table,
find love as bright as harbor lights.
I am once again participating in Paul Brookes’ April Ekphrastic Challenge. Each day, I will post my poem(s) here. You can see the art and read the other responses by going to Paul’s site here.
The artists are Gaynor Kane, John Phandal Law, and Anjum Wasim Dar. Thank you for your wonderful and inspiring art!
Reblogged this on The Wombwell Rainbow.
Thank you, Paul.
I LOVE this. It didn’t go in the direction I thought it would, and I’m glad it didn’t. Despite it all, a loving home keeps a child safe and happy. (Or it should.)
Thank you so much, Liz. I’m so pleased it wasn’t predictable! 😊
You’re welcome, Merril!
I really like the way the rhythm slows from machine to family time. (K)
Thank you very much–such an interesting observation, Kerfe.
Your rhythm always has something to say, even if you are not conscious of it.
Thank you very much!
I love that you got this out of those images. You really brought them together so well. Work to put food on the table to help children grow…
Thank you so much, Dale.
I think you connected it even more!
Sweet! I love when I “get it”! 😏
😊
What a bustlingly beautiful poem, Merril: I am impressed at the consistent quality of the poems you are publishing every day!
Thank you so much, Ingrid! That is such a lovely comment, and I truly appreciate it!
