Inspired by AWD14, “Ocean Pearl” and GK14, “Glasgow Dawn”
Dawn on the River
Marigold and tangerine, spirits
awakened by the sun,
dive from the sky to glide through windows
and float, shimmering, atop the blue river–
shapeshifters, soon they will transform
from brilliant flowers to snowy doves
and ghostly galleons sailing out to sea,
where a diver will find a great white pearl–
in the sunset, it glows with orange light.
I’m late in posting today, as I’m trying to finish some projects while cooking and cleaning for Passover. My schedule and reading others’ posts may be erratic the next few days.
I am once again participating in Paul Brookes’ April Ekphrastic Challenge. Each day, I will post my poem(s) here. You can see the art and read the other responses by going to Paul’s site here.
The artists are Gaynor Kane, John Phandal Law, and Anjum Wasim Dar. Thank you for your wonderful and inspiring art!
I love your poem! The art was particularly inspiring today.
Thank you so much, Liz.
I’ve been enjoying the art so much–even the ones that I don’t respond to (mostly because I don’t have time every day to write multiple poems).
You’re welcome, Merril! Isn’t is wonderful how some art just cries out for us to tell its story to others?
Yes. That’s definitely true. Don’t you think that when you walk through a museum or pass a sculpture?
Yes, I do. (Although my husband tries to hurry me along, alas.)
But it’s still there in your mind for someday. 😊
This is true! 🙂
Well done, Merril: you are so busy, and still posting beautiful poetry every day 😊
Aww–thank you so much, Ingrid! 💙
Thanks you for this: I especially like the golds and oranges of sunrise described as marigold and tangerine. Happy good wishes as you prepare Seder, Merril. 😀
Thank you so very much, Marian!
Happy Easter to you and yours. 😊
Absolutely beautiful! 🙂
Thank you so much, Linda!
I knew from the first line that this was yours. Who else would use ‘Marigold and tangerine’ instead of orange or red or flame? Lovely, as always.
Thank you very much. 😊
My bit of synesthesia expressed.
You do it well 🙂
Thank you!😊
Reblogged this on The Wombwell Rainbow.
Thank you, Paul.
Life is always transforming itself. (K)
Yes, it is.
Beautifully done despite your busyness
Thank you very much, Derrick.
Oh, this is absolutely beautiful! Love this!
