The Voyage
Some seek the omniscient,
yet even stars die. There is no
all-knowing.
I am on, not a race, but a voyage,
swaying, tranquil, sharp, teeny, huge,
redundant—and full of surprises—a snap, a glow,
like a blue-eyed stare
from a black-and-white portrait.
A journey that weighs the ancient
and the now. Not apathetic,
aware.
Savoring the bite of cheese,
the scent of clover, a kiss—folding
them into time’s handkerchief, tucking
them away into a pocket of my mind
to hold, till I become a memory, too.
Do I have things to do? Oh well. Jane posted words from the random word generator, and of course, I couldn’t resist.
Wonderful use of the words generated (quite a list!) and I believe we are all on our own journey, filled with ups and downs, joys and sorrows, surprises and mundane… Lovely!
Thank you very much, Dale!
It is quite a list. Different from the usual Oracle words. Feel free to play along.
I’m still working on my Oracle. 😏
Course, I mistakenly clicked on the more words and lost the ones I was working with. Live and learn…
The Oracle probably knew they weren’t the right ones. 😏
It’s happened to everyone. I try to put the ones I want or think I want in a Word doc right away.
You’re probably right!!
And hey, live and learn and all that 😉
😀
Beautiful poem and perspective!
Thank you so much!
This is a stunning flow and wonderful poem, Merril. An awesome journey.
Thank you very much, Lamittan. 😊
You’re most welcome, Merril. 🌺
The voyage! I think we went on the same one 🙂
Did we? 🙂 Is yours up?
I’m going to post it, not with the random words though.
I love everything about this poem! These lines went into my favorite metaphors/similes folder (a two-fer!).

Thank you very much, Liz! Wow, I’m honored! 😊
You’re welcome, Merril!

Beautiful. It’s all a journey, and we have to enjoy the moments. xx Michael
Thank you so much, Michael! 💙
I think of a journey as linear: begin here and end there. However, your last stanza gave me pause with the expression: “folding them into time’s handkerchief.” Not linear, perhaps circular, like eternity–maybe something else entirely. Hmmmm!
Thank you, Marian. I’m pleased that I made you stop and ponder!
Yours and Jane’s complement each other, so beautiful. I’m still in a funk of rage I think…(K)
Yes, we both had voyages, but originally mine began more like yours.
A fine evocation of the voyage, not race, we are all engaged in until we become memories, too
Thank you very much, Derrick. 💙
Pleased you didn’t resist, Merril – a thought-provoking poem!
Thank you so much, Ingrid!
A wonderful bittersweet write, Merril.
Somehow your writings are like my Art Gowns.
You have style which shows in your writing. I have style when designing the gowns. You are skilled with many writing techniques. I am skilled, utilizing much technique, a dying art though is mine.
You use anything around you, photos, paintings, challenges, generator words, the oracle, the river.
I use anything…old fabrics, tear apart old clothes, curtains and pillow cases, $2.00 a yard fabric that’s been in a bin on the street outside a store for years, wine corks, saved bubble wrap, old ties, etc.
Anyway, I admire your art!
Thank you so much, Resa. That is a lovely comment and compliment. Your art is lovely–the sketches and sewing. I can’t sew at all.
I know thought about it that way, that I can use anything to create a poem. 😀 I suppose anything can inspire.
Beautifully written. A truly lovely read 😊
Thank you very much! 😊
