A Gift
Dawn arrives on golden peacock wings,
I want to hold the moment—all such magic–
not in gilded cages,
but wrapped in a downy blanket,
like a baby held against my breast,
to cherish the weight
of heavy-lidded dreams–
of stars’ light
everywhere, here.
A quadrille for dVerse using the prompt word, wrap. I half-wrote this poem in the middle of the night, but then, there was this beautiful sunrise this morning.
Oh, such a beautiful poem! This one is just magical!
Thank you so much, Dale!
Sorry, oops. that was supposed to be Linda! I saw Dale’s name below. 😅
Beautiful. So light and dreamy!
Thank you very much, Dale!
My pleasure!
Nothing like a sunrise to set the tone for the day. This piece is beautiful, lyrical, refreshing, the antithesis of the morning world news.
Thank you so much, Glenn. That is very kind.
Yes, I needed to not write about the news today.
I’ve just read this one on TTT. It gets better 🙂
Thank you. 😊
So tranquil! Well done!
Thank you!
So beautifully composed and it literally made me sigh halfway through. There is a need to capture the magic of dawn, new beginnings, new hope and you’ve certainly done it here.
Oh, wow. Thank you so much, Mish!
I like how the end reminds us that we are, in fact, bathed by starlight every day.
Thank you, Ken. I’m pleased you saw that.
This is so beautiful, Merril. Peaceful. I often forget that the sun is a star. Thank you for the reminder. 🙂
Thank you so much, Robin.
I think it’s something most of us tend to forget. 😊
An ahhh poem! For me, the poem turns on the second stanza. Beautiful!
Thank you so much, Liz! 💙
You’re welcome, Merril!
You probably didn’t use filters to post this gorgeous snap, and you created a gorgeous piece from the fantastic photo. I see a baby bunting. Ah, magical!
I do use filters sometimes, but nope, not for this one, Marian. Thank you!
Very beautiful poem.
Thank you so much!
Most uplifting
Thank you, Derrick.
Beautifully done 💖
Thank you!
Dawn is my favourite time of day, so I can understand you wanting to hold on to the moment! 🌅
Thank you, Ingrid. I’m glad you appreciate it, too. 😊
You (and your poems) CONSTANTLY amaze me. This one is soooo beautiful that I’ve read it five times. And I’m about to read it five times more. What a beautiful soul you have, Merril, to write such poetry.
Pam–what a lovely comment. Thank you so much! You made my night. 😊💙
Cherishing dawn. I like the way you described the color as golden peacock wings and the tender way dawn is held by your words. It is a precious gift to wake to this beautiful sky once again. A perfect poem to start my day.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Ali! 😊
Our hearts need this sort of tenderness in these times, to hold what is good, hopeful, bright, as carefully as an infant, to give and receive the gifts of that singular moment. A beautiful metaphor deftly and invisibly executed. Sorry to be so late to visit–life and such being annoying.
No need to apologize. I am always so behind on reading. Thank you for your very kind words of appreciation.
I could never have written this line, Merril – but it is one of the best I’ve ever read.
❤
David
David–what a kind and generous thing to write. Thank you! 💙
Aww! This is so beautiful, Merril. 💙
Thank you! 💙
My pleasure.
Simply beautiful, Merril.
Sometimes you write those poetry tasting platters, the poetry tapas. This is a dessert!
Thank you, Resa! 😊
