Monday Morning Musings:

Mystical Journey
I speak with living and dead
in daytime musings
and at night, inside my head,
we glide in and out of rooms, beyond dimensions,
connected stories in an unfinished book.

In existential puzzles and unresolved pursuits,
where age does not exist,
I sail through life in seconds,
opening windows and doors
in the multiverse of my mind.

But here past dawn, the day is fresh-washed
in petal-pink, cream-rinsed with scented dreams,
crows chase eagles, then stop to preen,
there is danger—and beauty—the truth
and knowledge even for crows.

The rosy blooms at last must drop,
as newborn goslings with yellow fuzz
stop to discover the never-before seen–
all so new, so green. While parents flap
and hiss at strangers that walk and fly.
Serpents are the symbol,
but they may be more scared of us,
the peacock primpers who promise
that ignorance is bliss,
and shuttered minds find grace.

Now before the sun has set,
let’s pour the wine and toast
to us, once shiny things,
the glow perhaps tarnished,
but burnished from inside
the gilding done within–
no less beautiful on weathered clay pots,
fired in our kiln of dreams.

I always forget to mention this, but you should be able to see titles for the photos if you click on them.
We went to Grounds for Sculpture on Friday. We’ve been there before, but we picked an absolutely perfect day to visit! The spring foliage was beautiful, and the sky was so blue. It was a warm, sunny day with low humidity. (There was also a warning about the high risk for fires.) I was happy to see so many peacocks and peahens, turtles, fish, and a snake. We strolled the grounds for almost three hours, then we went to Heritage Winery for a late lunch or very early dinner and sat outside some more. It’s good to have such beauty amidst all the horror in the world, including the increasing threat to democracy here in the US.
We watched the last episode of Picard. I was torn between wanting to watch it and not wanting it to end. It was good to see the Next Generation captain and crew again, and they seemed to enjoy being together, too. We could use some help from them. Sigh.
So beautiful! I love the lines you wrote about ‘after dawn’. I can picture this rosy springtime day. Wishing you many springtime blessings, full of dreams…
Thank you so much, Linda! I really wish we could hold onto spring for a while. 🙂
Delightful verse and photographs
Thank you, Derrick.
the peacock primpers who promise
What a line!
Thank you! 🙂
You brought us on a wonderful journey and I thank you for including us. What a gorgeous place for a fun-loving couple to enjoy. 🙂
Sigh. I still cannot access Picard. Stupid streaming platforms…
Thank you! 💙
It was such a gorgeous day! You’d have fun there.
What a pain about Picard! I hope you’ll be able to see it sometime. Lots of fun to see them all together, and there are cameos by others.
It sure seems like it. Right up my alley 🙂
I could have it if I re-signed up for Crave (Canadian streamer) but they are so expensive and I flushed them for Paramount+. Am only willing to pay for so many!
Yeah, I get it! 🙂
Gotta draw the line somewhere!
Beautifully done 💛✨💫
Thank you! 💙
I love how your verse complements your photos, the winding of words among images. The sculpture garden looks like so much fun! I laughed aloud at some of your photos 😉
The threats to our country (and, by extension, to the world) are overwhelming so I try to find something to smile about whenever I can: (1) DeSantis (aka Bobblehead Ron) is losing ground among Republicans in part because of his hissy fit with Disney, and (2) Tucker Carlson has been fired from Fox. I guess since Fox needs to scrap together $787 million dollars, the company will have to get rid of the dead wood.
Thank you, Marie. Grounds for Sculpture is a lot of fun and beautiful. I’m glad I made you laugh. Even though we’ve been there a few times, I still took a ton of photos.
Yes, I heard about DeSantis and Carlson. Who goes to war with Disney? Especially with all the money they bring into the state? Just crazy.
Crazy is as crazy does 🙂
Too true!
The opening shot is sublime, and the one with the pink petals on the ground is magnificent!
A white peacock… wow.
Your musings are divine this morning.
Thank you, Merril!
Thank you! Those were my two favorite photos, too. The first photo is from Grounds for Sculpture, and the pink petal photo is from the park near my house.
I never realized the variations in color peacocks have!
Lucky you with that park!
I am fortunate. 🙂
The Grounds for Sculpture must be a truly inspiring place! I got two nuggets for my favorite metaphors/similes folder:
we glide in and out of rooms, beyond dimensions,
connected stories in an unfinished book.
we glide in and out of rooms, beyond dimensions,

AND this stanza could easily stand on its own as a perfect, gleaming gem poem:
Now before the sun has set,
let’s pour the wine and toast
to us, once shiny things,
the glow perhaps tarnished,
but burnished from inside
the gilding done within–
no less beautiful on weathered clay pots,
fired in our kiln of dreams.
Thank you so much, Liz. I’m pleased I added to your folder. 💙
Ground for Sculpture is a beautiful and fun place to visit.
You’re welcome, Merril. 🙂
Magical in every way. That first photo is breathtaking.
We do need those cracks of beauty amongst all the bad news.
And yes, we could use the Next Generation, and the first one too. Perhaps Spock can send us some guidance from the otherworld. (K)
Thank you so much, Kerfe. It was such a beautiful day.
You are right about needing the beauty–and also about the guidance.
How lovely a writing accompanied by such vivid and colorful photos! I love that shot of the water and your thoughts on Picard.
I so want to watch Picard, but I am determined to finish Deep Space Nine and Voyager before I watch it so I can make the most of the references and really revel in it. 🙂
Thank you so much! We’ve had some beautiful days here lately.
Picard is definitely a bit of nostalgia. We’ve been revisiting Next Generation. 🙂
