Charcoal clouds gather
together they roil, blow
with stormy fervor
the winds of change, so ruthless
I fear, yet watch for rainbows
A tanka for Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday, using synonyms for passion and congregate.
This seems appropriate for today. It’s the one-year anniversary of the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, and we are expecting thunderstorms here in New Jersey.
The time will get worse if there are adverse reactions to that celebration. A good weekend.
Love that last line. That all we can do, isn’t it. Well stated.
Thank you very much.
Excellent metaphors, Merril.
Thank you very much, Ken.
Thank you, Derrick.
Silver linings… or rather, rainbow wishes…
Yes. Thank you. 🙂
Excellent, excellent, Tanka, Merril. The last line makes the poem sing. I pray for peace during this period in our history. I only hope people will see that violence solves nothing. ❤
Thank you, Colleen. Yes, if only. . .
Definitely the weather pattern I’ve been seeing the past 10 days. You’ve captured the feeling well!
Thank you, Frank!
The unexpected is always waiting to surprise. I too love that last line. (K)
Thank you very much, Kerfe.

Gorgeous Tanka, Merril! ‘Charcoal clouds’, ‘stormy fervor’, and that last line was amazing. Loved it! 😀 xx
Thank you so much, Vashti! 🙂
You’re welcome. 🙂
Hopefully, the rainbow will be remembered more than the rain. Hopeful words which we all need more than ever!
Thank you very much, Rose!
A yet will be a whole
Roiling and blowing storm clouds do suit the tense air and atmosphere of today’s society. Mom would say, we are “on pins and needles!” I like your keeping us aware of the anniversary of the Charleston rally, Merril.
Thank you, Robin!
Sure, glad you liked this and I love rainbows!
Who doesn’t? 🙂
Well, my Mom disliked the rain! 😉 Kids waiting to go in a pool do, too. Ha ha! 🙂
