Flowers have a power–
in their beauty they fascinate,
falling in April showers,
almost without weight,
ethereal in form,
adrift to winds of fate–
do they weather the storm,
acclimate, accommodate
to changing times?
The sunโs rising position
also creates shadowed lines.
The flowers, without ambition,
hold some power nonetheless,
ensorcelling spirits lure squirrels and birds,
send ramblers on quixotic quests
with cockeyed verbs and lovesick words.
But now, robin and mockingbird know,
from the bowers, small throats mightily sing–
so, away the cold and the snow
and come the irresistible songs of spring.
Thus, the power of flowers
though it seems the most fleeting of things
fuels hope and love through hours
to soar high on feathered wings.
The prompt for Day 3 of NaPoWriMo asked us to create word banks and to use rhymes and repeat words. I took some words from the Magnetic Poetry Oracle and then went from there.
Peace out for Flower Power!
Hahaha. Yeah.
Yes, flowers do have power. I spotted some pear tree blossoms on my walk today. And there’s that cool word again, “ensorcelling”!
Thank you, Marian!
Wow! Great job, Merril. I loved this!
Thank you, Jill!
they absolutely do!
Thank you! ๐
Flowers and birds…always a good combination. (I heard robins out my window this morning…no flowers out there yet though)
Thank you, Kerfe. The robins have been very busy. And the other day, into between rain showers, a mockingbird put on a concert.
I miss the starlings and their repertoire of songs. Perhaps they will show up here too eventually.
I hope so. I would think they’d hear you calling.
Flower power. I especially like these lines,
โsend ramblers on quixotic quests
with cockeyed verbs and lovesick words.โ
Thank you very much, Ali. I liked those lines, too. ๐
Unusual for you (and the Oracle) to rhyme. it’s lovely though, delicate and springlike.
Thank you!
I used to write a lot of rhyming poetry, just not so much recently. I only took a few words from the Oracle for this one.
I think she had fun ๐
She knows how to when she wants to. ๐
Of course. She can do anything ๐
Petals as April showers – very good
Thank you!
Wow, what a truly beautiful photo … so light and airy, so delicate and yet such power … like your poem ๐
Aww–thank you so much! ๐
Yes, the power of flowers.
