This was a story I wrote for dVerse two years ago. I also included the words of veteran who had been there on Ukraine. It still seems so relevant. We’re on the brink now, and the choices are so clear.

Your story is relevant on this day of remembrance and always. There is Ukraine, there is the Middle East, and, although we don’t hear much about it, there are horrors on the African continent. Mr. Shay’s comment makes me want to weep. To have fought in a war, believing your efforts will help end war, and then to see such horrors happening all over again. Perhaps it is the nature of human beings to fight, to start wars, but, still, thankfully, not every human being feels that way.
Thank you so much, Marie. It seemed appropriate and relevant to repost it. HCR’s letter today made me tear up (the one with Zelensky and the veteran).
Merril, when I read that letter out loud to Greg, I got choked up at that point. I know if I saw that exchange I would have cried.
