fog recedes, tide-like,
misty skies change, gray turns blue
sun and spirits rise
a smile forms on weathered face
raised to catch the radiance
This tanka is for Colleen Chesebro’s Weekly Tanka Poetry Challenge. The prompt words this week were fog and change.
A nice beginning to my day…still drinking coffee and hoping that fog will recede. (K)
Thank you, Kerfe. I was determined to come up with something positive (it took some time). π
I may need another cup of coffee.
That last couplet is gorgeous π
Thanks so much, Jane. I just couldn’t get the tanka, and then suddenly those last lines came to me.
They make the poem π
π
Beautiful word picture! I love it! Positivity is broadcast loud and clear. Yea! β€
Thank you, Colleen. π
I like the sense of better times coming.
Thank you, Claudia. Hope is good. π
You’ve described the surface of the lake now, misty giving rise to radiance – soon.
I must have known. π
I hope you have a beautiful day, Marian.
You’ve described the morning I’ve just photographed. I hope i can live up to you π
How cool, Derrick! π
Moon-induced fog. Now there’s a thought.
π
Beautiful. π I think that is such a wonderful and apt way to describe the way that the fog recedes. There are some tidal aspects to it.
Thank you, Robin.
You would certainly know, living where you do. π
I am ironically making my pot of coffee for the week. This was hopeful and positive, Merril. I lift my face up to the sun and often look for the moon in the night sky. π
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Robin.
Your face does not look weathered to me, but I, too, lift my face to sun and moon. π
Enjoy your coffee!
“raised to catch the radiance” – absolutely perfect. And you caught that amazement perfectly. A day that begins with fog seems to have no promise, and then the sun clears the air and makes it all look totally different, and promising.
Thank so much for your lovely comment, Pam!
I can see the bleak day transforming into blue skies. Gorgeous, lyrical words!
Thank you so much, Rose!
