Scattered
never-static particles stream
in space-time light to earth-sea,
crushed shells rise as limestone cliffs,
crumbling
like bones–
dinosaur, fish, and we
fertilize the flowers–
with blood and ash,
the red and white,
of chalk dust
in the sunlight,
sparkling like tiny stars
flying home.
For today’s dVerse, I combined quadrille prompts. Today’s word is “static,” and the previous quadrille that I missed was, “chalk.” A quadrille is a dVerse term for a poem of exactly 44 words.
I like the fact that you’ve used a “static” prompt to address movement – slow geological movement and that sparkling, rapidly moving dust. Lovely poem.
Thank you so much, Sarah. It is funny, now that you mention it, but that’s what popped into my head. 😊
You’re just a rebel!
Reblogged this on NEW BLOG HERE >> https:/BOOKS.ESLARN-NET.DE.
Thank you! 😊
Very thoughtful! Thanks for sharing, and have a great week! xx Michael
Thank you so much, Michael. You as well!
Oh yes… that chalk cliffs is so fantastic… the cliffs or Pourville are fantastic, one of my cousins live there and it is amazing
Oh, I’ve never been there, but it looks fantastic. I found the painting after I wrote the poem.
Loving most especially that last stanza. And your words are perfect for the Monet painting.
Thank you, Lillian. That last stanza is my favorite, too. That will stay however I revise this. 😀 I found the painting after I wrote the poem.
I agree with Lillian, how ironic the way you’ve created a beautiful life cycle full of images and movement, still incorporating ‘static’. This is wonderful.
Thank you so much, Mish! 😊
Oh my goodness, I meant that my thoughts were aligned with Sarah’s comment. Oops. 🙂
😀
Well you did introduce us to a “never static” scene and your words rang true.
Happy Monday
Much💛love
Thank you, Gillena. 😊
Yes, I wish I’d read yours too before doing mine. A lesson in emotional power with words and stark, effective rhythm, so nicely done..
Thank you so much for your kind, generous comment, Ain!
The imagery in your words, Merril… “crushed shells rise as limestone cliffs,
crumbling like bones–” love this. ❤
Thank you so much, Colleen! 💙
It’s always lovely listening to or reading your poetry, Merril. ❤
💙💙💙
In the end, I found this poem comforting, as if death were nothing to fear.
I’m so pleased it brought you that sense of comfort, Liz!
🙂
there is nothing static about your moving parts poem and imagery so well delivered Merril!~ 💖👏👏👏
Thank you so much, Cindy! 😊❤️
pleasure !!!~ 💖
just read limestone as limousine and confused myself.
after a second read I found your words are not static.
Thank you so much, Rog. 🤣
Very visual and plays perfectly off the painting. (K)
Thank you very much, Kerfe.
That painting does work well.
Dust and static are such great metaphors, Merril! Well done.
Thank you so much, Dwight!
You are welcome!
This poem held many surprises. The dash use worked well.
Thank you very much.
Just as you said…never-static…your verse is all about movement, Merril. You said so much in forty four words and that painting complements your lovely verse. 💙
Thank you very much, Punam!💙
My pleasure.
Such movement from a static prompt – and more science. A delightful poem
Thank you very much, Derrick.
For me, you provided a poetic view of geologic time …. which also means I like it!
Thank you, Frank! 😊
this piece is dotted with solid images, Merril. love these lines:
and we
fertilize the flowers–
with blood and ash,
Thank you so much!
Fan-friggin’-tastic, Merril – a terrific match for the painting!
Much love,
David
Thank you very much, David! 💙
Lovely, Merril! I’ve taken a couple of days off after April and now I don’t know how I’ll ever catch up reading! 😅
I understand! Just accept that you won’t. 😅
Nice work. Thanks for sharing. Sadly, my brains are too scattered to write poetry…. 😉
Take care.
Thank you for reading. 😏
🙏🏻
Adore the way you make the chalk dust sparkle! Thank you!
OH, btw, I watched & listened to the video of all the poets reading that was hosted by Liz. I adored everyone, and all of the poetry. You were/are my favourite.
Thank you so much, Resa.
And thank you for watching and listening. 💙😘
