Thank you to editor James Diaz for publishing another of my poems in Anti-Heroin Chic. This one, “Letter from My Mom,” is especially important to me. Not too long ago, a cousin who we have not seen in decades discovered a letter my mom had written to her long ago. She sent a photo of it to my sister. My mother was not a letter writer, and to read her words written when she still thought clearly–and when she also could see well enough to write–this was such a special gift. You can read my poem here.
Touching poem, Merril.
Thank you so much! π
Very welcome
Oh Merril (first let me apologise for my absence. I am on catch-up mode!) – this is absolutely wonderful. Yes, having your poem published – as it should be. It is beautiful in every possible way.
Such a beautiful poem! This is my first Christmas without my mother. (I understand what you mean about the souvenirs.) In our hearts, our beloveds are forever close.
Thank you so much, Linda.
This will be a difficult season for you, but yes, they are always with you. Sending hugs. π
This is precious, especially since it arrived from an unexpected source, a rare find. These lines especially resonate: “you still send me souvenirs. And they travel
on a special express line, straight to my heart.”
Not a day goes by that I do not think of my mother. I even weave her wisdom into my books. Brava, Merril!
Thank you so much, Marian. I know you understand. I have my mom’s paintings, but not really her words. It was very special–and unexpected. β€οΈ
Same here, Marian. I think of my mother every day.
As do I. β€οΈ

This touches an emotional chord with me. My mother’s voice was gone for her last 10 years–what a gift to get a glimpse of it back. (K)
Thank you, Kerfe. I’m pleased the poem touched you.
It wasn’t that my mom couldn’t have a conversation, but it just wasn’t on the same level as it had been. It was strange to read her words and think, oh yes, this is what she used to sound like.
It’s wonderful that the letter captured her voice so well. Something our children won’t have.
True, although I have tons of Storyworth responses to write for mine.
A powerfully stunning last stanza
Thank you so very much, Derrick. π
Great poem! I love the lines: curves form loops, completing cycles / as words handwritten on a page !
Thank you so much for reading and leaving me such a lovely comment, Conny!
This is such a beautiful, moving poem.
Thank you very much, Liz.
It was such a wonderful gift to read this letter.
You’re welcome, Merril.
Isnβt it interesting how the universe brings an unexpected message to us at the right moment. Your poem is a wonderful call back, a song in response.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt comment, Rebecca! π

Thank you so much, Ingrid! π
Merril, the poem is rich, full of love.
I comment here, as I had to fill in a form to comment, and I saw that the site is not secure. (Big chicken Resa)
Congratulations!
Thank you very much, Resa.
I appreciate that you read the poem and commented here. π
Congratulations, Merril. All of it is wonderful, especially the opening and closing stanzas.
Thank you so much, Ken!
It was one of those poems that sort of wrote itself quickly.
